Love Somebody on Repeat

You know, I appreciate good music.  I admittedly like to put songs on repeat so I can hear the tune over and over again.

I found myself doing this when I happened upon this Gotye video today.  More exciting because I was able to listen and watch it over and over again.  I have an appreciation for the lyrics and I'm drawn to the lines and colors that seemed to be heavily symbolic to the song itself.  Love is obviously a strong emotion throughout.

As I'm watching, I find myself reminded of one of my photographic memoirs, "Peekaboo".

Like this video - there are lines and colors, a male and a female component that are presented as a couple.  And, most of all - there is a similar emotion described by love.

I captured this photograph when I was in a large dome of colored mirrors - as if I were inside a kaleidoscope that I could see myself in.  Inside, I was surrounded by one solid color of mirrors.  And, then it would change into the next color.  And, another.  It was absolutely engaging and my husband and I spent a decent amount of time inside having so much fun while we tried to find ourselves within these mirrors - like the game peekaboo.

While Gotye's lyrics seem to speak of a break up, my memoir in "Peekaboo" is quite the opposite as it unites two separate dialogues as the past meets the present.

The main dialogue is a snippet from his college love letter from 1996.
I miss you so much.  If another girl ever even looks at me, I'm gonna tell her I'm taken by the best girl in the whole universe - then I'm gonna execute her.

& there's a hidden response from her - which is a snippet from when the couple renewed their wedding vows in 2011.
He makes me laugh

This real-life moment was captured on my version of 'repeat'.

Photographic Memoirs are framable travel photography that can also be repurposed as a blank-inside note card.
"Peekaboo" is from the series, Mi Amor: A Showcase of Love.

Enjoy!

Model Extraordinaire at SX

Who knew how this story would progress when this young beauty asked me to document her life.

After determining wardrobe, we decided to shoot in downtown Austin.  It just happened to be the kickoff weekend of SXSWi and we couldn't have asked for a better shoot.

Leanne's energy was contagious and her stunning eyes do not go unnoticed.  If fact, we received more attention from not only passers by who wanted to photograph our session, but from other professional photographers that were documenting SXSW - including a freelance shooter for CNN online who asked to shoot with us.  Leanne was a model extraordinaire with photographers surrounding her in the city.  What a blast!

I look forward to more sessions like this in 2012.  Thanks Leanne for being you!

Deliciousness!

Mère Made Sweets
I have a sweet tooth.  And, as as you can imagine - I was delighted when I had the opportunity to photograph Mère Made Sweets.

Meredith, Executive Pastry Chef and Owner of Mère Made Sweets comes to Austin from New York where she studied and trained under the finest chefs.  We are lucky to have her in Austin because her pastries are absolutely mouth-watering incredible and are now being offered at House Wine - right here in Austin, Texas.

Here, you can find her Coconut Macaroons with a delightfully rich ganache; her New York style Black and White cookies that are made with an old school buttermilk recipe and her Lemon Mousseline with a lemon glaze and candied lemon on top.  Y. U. M!  And, I can attest to the "yum" because after our shoot, I ate the hero sweet I photographed.

Gray

Today there was an instrumental pitter patter from the rain and it reminded me of a very gray day in Ireland I had several years ago.

We all know the Irish can experience all four seasons in one day.  And, this particular day may have seen all four, but I can only remember one thing about the weather. The rain.  The gray rain clouds.  The gray rain drops.  The gray sky.  Even the people I encountered seemed to feel gray.  Perplexed somehow.  I just happened to be in a serious funk and the weather seemed to portray exactly how I felt.  Gray.

My mind was not at peace as there were so many unknowns before me and I was in deep thought of what was going to become of the future.

This photograph was shot from the car.  Ironically, you can kind of see the road ahead - but it's a bit fuzzy - almost exactly how I was feeling about the future.

Inspiration

Being around creative people IS my inspiration.  It lights my fire.  Warms *"the room inside my heart" and encourages me to continue to travel so I can create more photographic memoir cards.

I was blessed to be part of NYIGF and it was an honor to meet so many wonderful and creative talents that do what they love.

And, to top it off - the feedback I received was delightfully positive.

It was so nice to hear peoples responses and to learn that my "Mi Amor" series - which was publicly announced at the show - turned out to be my best seller.

The ladies, especially, enjoyed the romantic love story behind the cards.

I showcase love as the past meets the present with this series.  I took snippets from my husbands college love letters and give a response to each quote.  With the series set, my response to the quote are a stackable puzzle that completes MY testimony the year we renewed our wedding vows.  And, each photograph is taken from our second honeymoon.

The ladies were "ooohing" and "aaaaahing" over this series, calling it "Perfect for wedding celebrations and Valentines Day" - especially since they are blank inside cards.  And, the quality of the linen paper did not go unnoticed.

Artists appreciated my work.  Wait.  That sentence doesn't do it justice.  Creative people.  MY greatest inspiration.  ARTISTS. Complimented. MY. Work.

What's your creative inspiration?  How does it inspire you and enlighten you?  Is it someone, something, or somewhere?

Believe. -aurora, creator of photographic memoirs

Vintage Suitcase Display

Only after I was accepted to the NYIGF, did I realize what a big production this trade show was going to be.  I'm literally surrounding myself around many creative talents from around the world who most likely love what they do - every day they get out of bed!  How exciting is that?!

It's been a pretty fun ride using my creativity to come up with my booth display.  I don't want to spoil too much, but I'm very pleased with how a portion of my display has turned out.

You see, I've basically taken some vintage suitcases and added a black elegant base so it can stand.  That's right.  Travel suitcases for the travel photographer.  And, this is where my photographic memoir note cards will be displayed.

Didn't Pat do an amazing job?  I'm so excited because I think they are stunning and just what the doctor ordered - maybe even better!  I can't wait to see them in the booth space.  Only 7 more days 'til kick off...
